I finally went to see X-Men III: The Last Stand with my family today. It wasn't a spectacular movie but it was at least entertaining. There are a lot of surprises and a stunning conclusion that brings a tragic romance to a close (or a new beginning...).
Unfortunately, the movie really needed more time to better flesh out the characters. At 104 minutes long, the director seems to have tried to cram too much information into a small time frame. Several of the characters leave you asking questions as to their motives, their thoughts, their feelings... basically, you are left questioning their existence in the movie.
The action and special effects are quite impressive but the timing of some scenes might leave you wanting. The story seems to float but has many plot holes. All in all, I'd give it a 3/5 - worth the price of admission but definitely not Oscar material.
Also, as I've mentioned before, make sure you stay after the credits. There is a coda I am sure you don't want to miss! :P
Now, I'm just waiting for the release of Over the Hedge and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in theaters here in Hong Kong. ^_^
